Fall in the Smokies .2 / by Dave Hileman

There is a small stream that intersects Laurel Creek a short distance from Townsend, TN, called “Turnback Creek.” I am intrigued by the name but don’t know why it is called that. I have walked about a mile or so of the creek and then, turned back, perhaps, so have many others? I like to photograph along the creek, it is not crowded, actually, in three or four trips I have only ever seen one other person. So it is a pleasant place to pass some time enjoying the quiet and the sounds of the stream and forest. I took this shot two weeks ago.
