We had no WiFi service yesterday. And no phone serve strong enough to get the internet. So I published one post when we arrive. This one will post early tomorrow, Sunday, I hope and then we “May” catch up with Rowena.
We did a bit of a drive today, lots of slow single track. Our two primary stops were Castle Eilean Donan and a graden near Poolewe. Both were excellent with the castle a highlight. It was destroyed in the early 1700’s then blown up with gunpowder captured at the castle. It lay in ruins until the early 1900’s when MacKensie clan leader inherited enough funds to rebuilt and restore, a 20 year effort that cost millions in today’s funds. It was his home - or at least his summer home. A few years ago it was turned into opened to guests. The family has a large apartment on site and use it sometimes. It is furnished, eclectically, and very busy so you lose a bit of atmosphere with lots of people and modern photographs mixed with period furnishings. Still a good visit.
Lots of inspiring scenery on the route to Ullapool.
