Cottage on the Hudson / by Dave Hileman

One of five homes used by this Vanderbilt, William. He built this house on the old family property in 1896. It was mere 25,000 square feet, at the height of the Gilded Age. This estate was used about 14 weeks each year and required 60 staff to run it when they were in residence, fewer when at another home. This was used for he and his wife and invited close friends not parties nor grand social occasions. Lots of French influence. An imposing but not really beautiful place.
