At the western end the property at Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina, is a large fountain that the water sits flush with the sides and that makes for nice reflections. This one is after our evening meal at the Harvest, a really fine restaurant on property. Then we took a bit of a stroll that took us past this nice sunset view.

These boats are out most days fishing the waters off Scotland’s coast. The three fishing boats were docked along the main pier in Oban, Scotland.
And One More /
A second shot of the same scene along the James River. These cypress trees are quite majestic.
Country Store /
I ran across this country store near the Kentucky line in Western Tennessee. Not sure if it was Watts Grocery or Spot Cash Grocery - might have been both sequentially. Nice patina on the roof.
Galaucous-winged Gull /
This bird was seen in Alaska racing across a marsh just a short distance from the shore south of Anchorage. I had never seen one of these before and it was a treat to see not just this one but several more in the same area.
James River Trees /
There are some beautiful and rather untouched places along the James River across the length of the entire river but you don’t expect them, perhaps, close to population centers like Virginia Beach, Richmond, Portsmouth and Newport News. Yet this serene shot was made between Richmond and Portsmouth along the James on the south shore. Note the eagle’s nest in the low tree toward the center.
Downtown Raleigh at Sunset /
This is from the site of an old hospital with extensive grounds that is now an urban park but much of it is still under development. Will be an amazing place.

Store front in Smithfield, Virginia. I cannot imagine who I might have been here with?
Lincoln /
This is at Ford’s Theatre where Lincoln was assassinated by Booth. The restored theatre has a nice museum in the basement, the box where Lincoln was shot is restored as is much of the theatre and it is still used for productions today.
A Hint of Spring from last year /
And soon to be here this year!
Last Stand /
On my way to the hike I shared yesterday - I passed this house on a hill. I imagine it was once a showplace for this rural valley with beautiful proportions, a neat porch, perfect windows for the house and a view worth sitting on said porch. It is clearly near the end of its time with holes in the roof, glass missing and lots of decay. Sad to see this fade away.
This be the day for the wearing of the green! /
Hope this day is full of Irish delight

Short and Challenging /
I took a hike, about 3/4 of a mile each way at Cedar Bluffs in Central Indiana. We are visiting in Bloomington. The creek was full and flowing fast, there has been a lot of rain here with flooding in many places. This was difficult because the trail was hopping along the rocks on the shore. No real path. I don’t know if there is one that was covered by the water or if this is the norm. Very careful to avoid turning an ankle.
The cliffs wee about 80 feet high.
A Dusting /
Light snow dots the already interesting landscape at Bryce Canyon National Park in early May.
Firepower circa 1862 /
These cannon are mounted on a wall at Fort Donelson in Western Tennessee protecting the Tennessee River. The fort was taken by Grant and provided access for the union to begin operations on the Mississippi toward Vicksburg.
Moores Creek Bridge Battlefield /
This quiet, almost unknown, battlefield was the site of one of the earliest victories of the American Revolution by the patriots. It is also the last broadsword charge of the Scottish Highland Regiment. The bridge in the photo is reconstructed and was the focal point of the battle in February of 1776, 250 years ago. You can find Moores Creek in Eastern North Carolina near the town of Currie.
There is also a unique monument here to the women of the American Revolution.
